Established just over 6 months ago by creative wife and husband Jacki and Russ Ward, Chalk and Linen has firmly become Coleshill’s favourite centre for home renovation. The shop is brimming with unique upcycled furniture that has been lovingly restored and revamped, as well as jewellery by local artist Lorna Ferguson, household gifts, haberdashery and an enticing coffee shop where customers can sample delicious cake and coffee crafted by Jacki’s son Dave.

What’s more, with their motto ‘An invitation for your imagination’ Jacki and Russ offer free advice and guidance on how to update homes and furniture using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™. For a more hands on approach, customers can take part in specific Annie Sloan™ workshops to perfect paint techniques, in addition to workshops on decoupage, upholstering furniture and painting on canvas.
The inspiration for Chalk and Linen was a natural progression for Jacki who first learnt to sew when she was 5. Raised in a family where reusing and recycling objects was a way of life, Jacki learnt to be creative with whatever materials she could get her hands on. Previous careers include creating costumes for Solihull Library Theatre, sewing alterations, selling second hand and upcycled furniture and running a children’s clothes and fancy dress shop.
Jacki now wants to pass on her thrifty knowledge to customers in the shop, helping them become more creative and to reuse items they already own. ‘It’s important that people stop throwing things away and see the value in everyday items,’ she said. ‘Upcycling is a perfect way for people to make their home unique and save money.’
